The Production

Amycel produces spawn in two state of the art facilities located in the United States

·   San Juan Bautista, California

·    Madisonville, Texas

Spawn Mate produces supplements in New Albany, Indiana

Spawn making is a carefully controlled process of solids-state fermentation. Pure culture of the desired strain is introduced into sterilized substrate, bagged in a clean room, and then incubated in temperature controlled incubation rooms. 

 

Raw materials

All raw materials are subject to stringent controls established by our Quality Assurance Division. Our cultures and products are tested thoroughly to verify performance, and analyzed to ensure they are free from foreign organisms (contaminants) that may affect cropping. Genetic analysis is done multiple times a year to guarantee strain identity, as well as ensuring strains are free from La France virus.

Cookers

In order to accommodate the increasing demand for our product, Amycel has installed three new cooking vessels in the US over the last decade. These vessels are capable of producing all of our products, but have been specially designed to produce our high-performance spawn products Exxpress and Onyxx.  

Tanks

After the raw materials are treated in the cookers the materials are dumped in a tank in the sterile zone. The "Sterile Zone" within the laboratory is where the inoculation for spawn production occurs. This is done under the utmost sanitary conditions which are augmented by a CIP (Clean In Place) system.

Bagging

The bagging of the spawn into 15 liter bags is done in the sterile zone right after the inoculation took place. This further reduces the risk of contamination of the product. Sanitary controls are in place in the "Sterile Zone" to insure production is free of any contamination.

Incubating

The bags of spawn are incubated for a predetermined number of days at a predetermined temperature (depending of the strain). Then, they are cooled down slowly prior to refrigeration.

Shipping

Prior to inspection for shipping random bags of spawn are selected and undergo rigid laboratory tests to insure viability of the product. Each bag of spawn is visually inspected prior to packing and shipping.
